The Who, What and Where of Carrowmena Activity Centre…

Carrowmena Activity Centre was founded by Charlotte Miller in March 2009, who identified a gap in the market for a new and unique activity centre experience coupled with accommodation for youth groups and school groups. The centre was originally an old school building, constructed in 1936 as Carrowmena Primary School, with only 35 students and two teachers. The centre is situated in the picturesque Roe Valley, at the foot of Binevenagh, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is located on the outskirts of Limavady along the Causeway Coastal Route, making it easily accessible by car from Belfast, just a one-hour drive away.

It’s great to hear that Charlotte Miller has been recognized for her entrepreneurial achievements! Winning the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ award in 2011 is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to her hard work and dedication. Being nominated for ‘Best Rural Business’, ‘Young Entrepreneur’, and ‘Female Entrepreneur’ awards also shows that Charlotte is a standout in her field and has made a significant impact in the community.

It’s great to see how Carrowmena Activity Centre grew and developed over the years. It’s clear that Charlotte Miller’s passion for the outdoors and dedication to constantly coming up with new ideas has played a big part in the success of the center. Taking the time to travel and explore parts of the world to gain inspiration for the following season is a great example of how Charlotte is always looking for ways to improve the center and provide guests with the best possible experience.

It’s great to hear how Carrowmena Activity Centre adapted to changing market trends and diversified its offerings. The introduction of glamping pods and luxury bell tents to cater to the family market was a smart move, especially given the growing popularity of staycations. Being the first to introduce luxury bell tents in the North Coast is also a great achievement!

Carrowmena Activity Centre offers a range of accommodation options to suit all tastes and budgets. For self-catered groups, there is a 41-bed hostel onsite, which provides comfortable and affordable accommodation for larger groups. Additionally, there are 6 glamping pods, 11 luxury bell tents, and 8 camping pitches for those looking for a more unique and luxurious camping experience.

Onsite, guests can also enjoy a range of activities, with 16 different options available to choose from. These include exciting activities such as zip lining, climbing walls, and inflatables, as well as a variety of water sports activities. Offsite, guests can also explore the beautiful Binevenagh area through hill walking and other outdoor pursuits.

When it’s time for a break, guests can head to the onsite Coffee Pod, which offers a variety of drinks and treats to keep everyone refreshed and energized. With its excellent facilities and exciting range of activities, Carrowmena Activity Centre is the perfect destination for anyone looking for an adventure-filled getaway in the heart of Northern Ireland’s beautiful countryside.

It’s also great to see that the centre is family-friendly, and that Charlotte and her husband are raising their children alongside the business. It’s not easy to balance work and family life, but it’s clear that they are committed to making it work.

I’m sure that the guests who visit Carrowmena will be impressed by the beautiful surroundings and the wide range of activities and accommodation options available. I wish Charlotte and her team all the best for the 2023 season and beyond!
