Agria Swara triumphs in Choral Festival 2016…
Last week was far from a normal week here in Carrowmena Activity Centre… We had the amazing opportunity of hosting ‘Agria Swara’ who had travelled all the way from Bogor, Indonesia to take part in the City of Derry International Choral Festival 2016.
Safe to say, Carrowmena fell in love with the group. Every single individual was Happy, Motivated and ready to make the most of their trip to the North Coast. They practiced Day & Night, only breaking for mealtimes.. BUT always with a smile on their face.. (They did manage to squeeze in a few selfies)
It was only fair that Lottie & Carla got in on the onion selfie action..
During the week, they visited our local Limavady town – where Valerie from Limavady Methodist Church was so kind to offer their Church for the group to practice in and help with the acoustics – Valerie’s hospitality to the group was out of this world providing tea and pancakes on arrival and doing anything she could to help. We would like to say a huge thank you Limavady Methodist!
We also had a visit from Ballykelly Presbyterian Church Choir – they had the privilege of enjoying an evening being entertained by the group performing their competition pieces.. They thoroughly enjoyed their night and think they got some tips!
On Thursday the group had the morning off so we decided to take them on a tour of our local ‘Milgro’ onion factory. We had such a fantastic morning and got to hear the group singing a traditional Indonesian drinking song.
Sunday was the most important day of their trip – the competition began and lasted all day.. The group competed throughout the day singing a range of Indonesian cultural songs mixed with crowd favourites… They put their heart into every performance in the hope they could take the trophy back home.. At 9:30pm the WINNER was announced…AGRIA SWARA were the champions of the City of Derry International Choral Festival 2016… They scored a huge mark of 93.57..
We would like to say a HUGE congratulations to the group – it has been a pleasure here at Carrowmena to get to know you all and enjoy the singing.. Good Luck in London and hope to see you back again next year..
